About Scholarship Programs of the Health Professions Education Foundation#

The Health Professions Education Foundation administers six (6) scholarship programs that provide students with support to finance their education while accepted or enrolled in a health professions program. Students can apply and may be awarded in exchange for a period of direct patient service to a medically underserved community upon completion of their education. These scholarship programs include:

  • Allied Healthcare Scholarship Program
  • Vocational Nurse Scholarship Program
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse to Associate Degree Nursing Scholarship Program
  • Associate Degree Nursing Scholarship Program
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing Scholarship Program
  • Advanced Practice Healthcare Scholarship Program

Application Cycle: OPEN#

Applications must be submitted by 3:00 pm, February 23, 2021. Review the 2021 APHSP Grant Guide for program guidance and requirements.

The Advanced Practice Healthcare Scholarship may award up to $25,000 for one year of school and can be awarded up to three (3) times. If awarded, recipients agree to a twelve (12) month service obligation practicing full time, direct patient care at a qualified facility in California.

Eligibility Requirements#

Scholarship

To be eligible for the Advanced Practice Healthcare Scholarship Program, you must be currently accepted or enrolled in the following California Board or Committee approved program:

Scholarship Practice Tests

  • Clinical Nurse Specialists
  • Dentist see dental location eligibility
  • Nurse Practitioners
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Pharmacists
  • Physical Therapists
  • Physician Assistants
  • Speech Therapists

In addition, the applicant must:#

  • Be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) units, or its equivalent until program completion
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or greater
  • Graduate after June 30, 2021
  • Be free from any other service obligation
  • Be willing to work in a Medically Underserved Area for twelve (12) months

Location Eligibility Requirements#

Qualified facilities include those designated by The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources Administration (HRSA) or California’s Shortage Designation Program, a liaison to the federal Shortage Designation Branch (SDB) of Health Resources and Services Administration as Medically Underserved Area (MUA), Medically Underserved Population (MUP), Health Professional Shortage Area- Primary Care (HPSA-PC), Health Professional Shortage Area- Dental (HPSA-D), and Primary Care Shortage Area (PCSA). In addition to the Federal and CA state designations, any State, County, Veteran, or Correctional Facility qualifies as well as Native Indian Health Centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers.
